Stirring Starstuff

Sri Prabha’s practice as an artist echoes the influences of his Indian heritage by combining these roots with the perspective of a western upbringing, and a calling for the metaphysical understanding of where humans exist in the universe.

This broad interpretation of Prabha’s artistic influences can be narrowed down to the simple theory that all matter on earth, and perhaps the universe, share the same atoms – a theory that has its roots in the teachings of Vaisheshika-Sutra, a system of Indian philosophy originated by the sage, Kanada, and dating back as long as Buddhism.

In keeping with this “connected” foundation, the prevailing western ideology of an evolutionary hierarchy, in which humans reign over all living creatures, is in conflict with Prabha’s native roots. This struggle is a theme present throughout his work.

How has western culture’s dominance over its environment affected our planet? Are many of the environmental issues that our civilization faces the direct result of this dominance, and how is that narrative shaped when witnessed through the perspective of Prabha?

Our eight-minute documentary uses this exposition, and these questions, as a starting point to further explore Prabha’s artistic vision.

We looked into Prabha’s history and explored both his artistic and life influences, and examined how those influences relate to one another.
