Project Art

ProjectArt establishes public libraries as enriching local spaces where youth engage in free after school visual arts classes. As part of their arts education and social practice residency, local artists teach and mentor students ages 4-17 while developing artwork in the library. The nonprofit’s award-winning model of change reaches 1,890 youth in under-resourced communities in six cities throughout the country.

ProjectArt’s Miami programming is offered in 8 Miami-Dade Public Libraries including Culmer/Overtown, Little River, Hispanic Branch, Model City, and is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Knight Foundation, The Children’s Trust, the Miami-Dade Public Library System, among others.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez has praised the nonprofit’s partnership with the Miami-Dade Public Library System, saying that “teaching arts to children in our neighborhoods enhances their quality of life by providing them with invaluable opportunities to learn, grow, and excel. Once again, this collaboration proves that libraries in the 21 st century can provide the kind of programs and services that make our neighborhoods great places to live and raise families.”
